TRAX train and bus fares will increase by 25 cents to $2.25 for full-fare riders on Sunday when the Utah Transit Authority reimposes a fuel surcharge based on diesel price increases experienced earlier this year.

Senior and reduced-fare rides will increase by a dime, to $1.10.

UTA policy imposes a surcharge whenever regional diesel prices have averaged higher than $3 a gallon for the majority of a quarter of a fiscal year. Riders quit paying that charge last year when prices fell, but the average price has since increased.

FrontRunner commuter rail's base fare, before a 50-cent charge for each additional station, also will rise to $2.25. FrontRunner monthly passes will increase, going from $162 to $177.

Adult monthly passes for TRAX and buses will increase from $67 to $75.
