Layton » A plea resolution for a former Farmington police lieutenant arrested during a July prostitution sting did not occur as anticipated Tuesday in 2nd District Court.
Instead, a Nov. 1 trial date was set for Shane Whitaker, 41, of Syracuse, who is charged with patronizing a prostitute, a class B misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail.
But defense attorney Greg Skordas said negotiations are continuing and the case might still be resolved short of a trial.
Whitaker, who has since resigned from the force, was off-duty when he allegedly offered money for a sex act on July 1.
He was one of eight men arrested after Layton police placed a prostitution ad on a website. Undercover officers scheduled appointments with johns, then set up a female decoy at a local hotel.
Whitaker had been a member of the Farmington Police Department for 18 years, and served as interim police chief for about two months in 2001 when then-chief Jeff Jacobson died.
