Provo • Quarterback Riley Nelson's season-ending shoulder injury isn't the only ailment the BYU Cougars are dealing with this week as they prepare for Nevada on Saturday at LaVell Edwards Stadium.

The Cougars could also be without starting cornerback Brian Logan against the red-hot Wolf Pack.

Logan has an inflamed shoulder has was held out of practice Monday and Tuesday, BYU head trainer Kevin Morris said. Logan dressed for practice Tuesday, but did not participate in any contact drills.

Morris said he is day-to-day and will likely be a game-time decision on Saturday, provided he can practice by Thursday.

The news regarding injured offensive lineman Matt Reynolds was a little better. Reynolds suffered a lower leg contusion after being leg-whipped against FSU, but an MRI showed no bone fracture. Reynolds has been held out of practice as well, but should see some action on Wednesday.

He almost certainly will play Saturday.

Safety Andrew Rich is battered and bruised, with Morris saying the senior has a "full-body contusion." However, Rich has practiced both days and is expected to play.

The other safety, Steven Thomas, left the FSU game with a concussion and will need to pass protocol for all concussion victims before he can return to practice.

Tight end Austin Holt has a Grade I AC separation in his shoulder, but has practiced all week.

Reno reunion

BYU outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy grew up in the Reno area and said he is excited to face his hometown team.

Van Noy has played sparingly behind starter Jameson Frazier and the weakside linebacker this season.

"Kyle is continuing to mature, continuing to grow, continuing to handle all the things that we are asking him to do here at BYU," coach Bronco Mendenhall said. "To this point, I am pleased with his progress. And that's what it is, is progress. It is not a finished product yet.

"He has athleticism, and he has size, and he is willing. And he is learning about maturity. So far, so good, I would say in terms of his career at BYU."

Briefly

BYU has never lost three consecutive games in Mendenhall's six seasons at the school. … The Cougars have never lost to Nevada in Provo, having defeated the Wolf Pack in 2001 and tied it 6-6 in both 1940 and 1930.
