Clearly, University of Utah coach Kyle Whittingham's quarterbacks have put him in a win-Wynn situation.

For two weeks, backup Terrance Cain guided the Utes to convincing victories with nearly flawless performances.

On Saturday night, Jordan Wynn reclaimed his starting job, showed no lingering impact of a sprained thumb and helped Utah rout San Jose State, 56-3.

In his first action since Utah's opening win over Pittsburgh, Wynn completed 14 of 18 passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns.

"The thumb felt good throughout the game," Wynn said, "and it felt good to be back out there with my teammates."

Said Whittingham: "Jordan looked good coming back into the lineup. I thought he was sharp."

Wynn threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Shawn Asiata and a 36-yarder to Dallin Rogers on one of his few shots down the field.

In fact, the average gain on Wynn's 14 completions was a fraction under nine yards.

"It's just kind of the way it worked out," he said.

Whittingham agreed, saying Wynn's injured thumb was a nonfactor against the Spartans.

"Jordan's got no limitations," his coach said.

"He's 100 percent. His thumb, from what the medical staff tells us, is as good prior to the injury," Whittingham said. "So there's no lingering effect there. It's kind of how the game went."

Utah never trailed, which probably helped Wynn's comfort level in his return game.

On the Utes' first play, he handed the ball to Eddie Wide, who flipped it to Reggie Dunn on a reverse.

He scored on a 43-yard run 2:54 into the game.

When Dunn got the ball, Wynn said, "There was nobody there. And Reggie is so fast, as soon as you give him a crease, he's gone. … It worked exactly how it was drawn up."

Said Dunn: "As soon as I caught it I knew I was gone. As soon as I caught it."

Wynn guided Utah to a 42-3 lead midway through the third quarter, when Whittingham pulled him.
