Provo • Teammates describe BYU linebacker Brandon Ogletree as crazy, a bit psycho, and sort of like the Tasmanian devil when he gets on the football field.

What do you expect from the only boy in a family that includes seven sisters?

But Ogletree is also known as one of the Texans on the team. He is darn proud of it, too. From the town of McKinney, on the northeastern edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, Ogletree is making a homecoming this week as the Cougars face No. 4 TCU on Saturday.

"It will be a good time. I will have a lot of friends and family there from home," said Ogletree, a sophomore. "It is a huge game for us, not necessarily because of who we are playing, but because it is our next game. It will be fun."

Ogletree expects between 50 and 100 people from his area will make the 45-minute drive to Amon G. Carter Stadium; he had secured 20 tickets from teammates as of Tuesday, and was hoping for more. Receivers McKay Jacobson (Southlake) and Ross Apo (Arlington) and defensive back Landon Jaussi (Wylie) are also from Texas, but Apo is still recovering from a broken finger and won't play.

Ogletree never has played at the stadium, but did receive some recruiting interest from TCU, partly because the defensive coordinator at his high school, Tony Tademy, left after Ogletree's junior year to become TCU's linebackers coach.

"I have always wanted to come to BYU," Ogletree said. "At the time, TCU didn't really appeal to me. I love BYU's culture and the coaches here, and the atmosphere. I always wanted to come here."

Possible redshirt

BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall said Wednesday that Apo is still weeks away from returning to the team after suffering an open finger dislocation early in the season. Apo might qualify for a medical redshirt, which would have to be appealed to the NCAA.

The hardship waivers are granted when injuries are deemed to be season-ending or incapacitating, and happen during the first four games of the season.

Briefly

No. 4 TCU is the highest ranked conference opponent the Cougars have faced since playing No. 5 Utah in 2004. … BYU kick returner O'Neill Chambers needs just 46 kickoff return yards to become the school's all-time leader in that category. Mike Rigell had 1,545 from 1998-2001.
