Perhaps University of Utah basketball coach Jim Boylen needs to make a phone call.

The way Ute quarterback Jordan Wynn rebounded Saturday, he might have a future in hoops.

Just seven days after an admittedly disappointing performance, Wynn was almost perfect during Utah's 59-6 victory over Colorado State.

He completed 23 of 29 passes for 321 yards and three touchdowns as the Utes demolished the Rams.

Wynn's touchdown passes included a 30-yarder to Eddie Wide, a 71-yarder to DeVonte Christopher and an 18-yarder to Shaky Smithson during a 15-minute span of the second and third quarters.

"I thought I played pretty well," said Wynn, who threw for over 300 yards for the third time in his 11-game career. "[I] took care of the football. That's the major stat being a quarterback — no interceptions."

Picks were the blemish on Wynn's performance last week at Wyoming.

He suffered three interceptions, including two in the end zone, during the Utes' 30-6 victory over the Cowboys.

"That was really big for us; Jordan was able to bounce back," Christopher said.

Utah coach Kyle Whittingham was also interested in how his sophomore would play against Colorado State.

"Jordan rebounded," Whittingham said. "Rebounded is probably not the right word, but he was much more efficient and was able to take care of the football the entire game."

Actually, Wynn played less than three quarters, leaving after Utah built a 38-6 lead.

"He made good decisions and was able to put us in position to win," Whittingham said. "We had a talk [about interceptions] on Monday, but he didn't need to be reminded much more than that.

"He's a competitor. He's his toughest critic. So he knew what needed to be done. He's very self-motivated."

In the first half, Utah opened a 24-6 lead, with Wynn completing 19 of 24 passes.

"He was excellent in his decision-making," Whittingham said.

Wynn's 71-yard touchdown came on a slant to Christopher, whose catch-and-run with 3:37 left in the second quarter broke the game open.

"Obviously … a pretty big one," Wynn said.

Asked about the play, Christopher said, "They blitzed, Jordan got the ball out quickly and the rest is history."

Utah piled up 648 yards of total offense — the fifth most in school history.

"Our offense was, obviously, very effective," Whittingham said. "A bunch of points. A bunch of yards."

And no interceptions.

"Taking care of the football is always a big focus," Wynn said. "But it was definitely on my mind today."
