For the second time in three years, BYU has placed an offensive lineman on the college football Freshman All-America Team.

Monday, the Football Writers Association of American (FWAA) named BYU redshirt freshman offensive lineman Thomas Shoaf to the 16th annual team. BYU offensive lineman Tejan Koroma was named to the FWAA's Freshman All-America Team following the 2014 season.

Shoaf, who hails from Columbus, Ind., played in 11 games last season and started in nine after an injury sidelined Ului Lapuaho.

The returned missionary helped the Cougars go 9-4 and helped running back Jamaal Williams break the school's all-time rushing yardage record. Williams ran for 1,375 yards and 12 touchdowns in 10 games.

The Cougars rushed for 201.2 yards per game and were 12th nationally in third-down conversion percentage (47.69).

Shoaf is one of several standout offensive linemen who will return for BYU in 2017.

The Cougars lose Parker Dawe and Andrew Eide to graduation, but will gain transfer John Vaka.

"We have a lot of returners, a lot of experience, a lot of depth," said another returner, guard Tuni Kanuch. "So next year looks really good. I am really hopeful."
