Fort Collins • Luke Ashworth went three games earlier this season without a reception. Brigham Young's senior receiver made up for lost time in the first half of the Cougars' 49-10 win over Colorado State on Saturday.

Ashworth caught four passes for touchdowns of 62, 7, 36 and 8 yards, all in the first half, to set a record for most touchdown receptions in a half in BYU history.

His four touchdown grabs in a game ties a mark set by Kirk Pendleton in 1983 against New Mexico and John VanderWouden in 1976 against Colorado State.

"Not a bad day's work," Ashworth said. "That was fun. The line gave Jake [Heaps] all the time in the world, and I was fortunate to be on the other end of that."

Ashworth, who did not have a catch in the second half, finished with 113 receiving yards, also a career high.

"I am thrilled to be part of all those great players in BYU history. I didn't realize it tied a record until after the game. That was a fun first half," he said.

The first TD came on a 62-yard flea-flicker from Heaps, a play Ashworth said the Cougars have been working on in practice since it didn't work against Utah State.

"The flea-flicker is just something that, especially early in the game, we were trying to make sure that we could capture the momentum, and then hold it. And I think that's what we did," said coach Bronco Mendenhall.
