Two teens were robbed at gunpoint while trick-or-treating Halloween night, deputies said.
The boys, 13 and 15, were walking near 8700 South and 1300 East about 8:30 p.m. Saturday when two men approached them, said Salt Lake County sheriff's Lt. Don Hutson. One of the men brandished a gun, and they told the teens to empty their pockets, Hutson said.
When the boys said they had nothing to steal, the men took one boy's bandana, which he was wearing as a Halloween costume, Hutson said. One of the men hit the other boy, Hutson said.
The teens called police and told several friends what happened. Some of their friends said two men matching the suspects' description had been at a party, and the friends later identified the men for investigators, Hutson said. The men, 18 and 19, admitted to robbing the boys, Hutson said. The teens do not know the men, and it is not clear why they were targeted, Hutson said.
The two men are homeless, Hutson said; investigators learned that one recently has aged out of foster care.
