Some 230 chatty, fidgety, texting seventh- and eighth-graders performed in what might have been largest production ever of "The Sound of Music," thanks to Nanette Kearl's annual goal to put on a first-class musical at Clayton Middle School while casting every student who tries out. Kearl volunteers to direct the play because she believes in the power of theater and teenagers to transform each other. > D1
