Brandon Gurney of Totalbluesports.com is reporting this morning that BYU football coaches have received a commitment from Tanner Mangum, a 6-foot-2 quarterback from Eagle High School in the Boise, Idaho, area. Mangum's brother, Parker Mangum, was a reserve player for the Cougars a few years ago after transferring from St. Mary's when that school dropped football. Parker Mangum, who also played baseball for the Gaels, switched from quarterback to receiver at BYU and was an Academic All-MWC performer his senior year. Tanner Mangum attended BYU's Alumni Day on Friday and watched the Cougars scrimmage at LaVell Edwards Stadium. He apparently made his commitment to coach Bronco Mendenhall over the weekend. He also had offers from Boise State, Utah, Oregon State and Arkansas, according to scout.com. Mangum threw for 10 touchdowns and 874 yards as a junior despite missing a lot of games due to injury.
