A 19-year-old Ogden man died early Sunday in what police are calling an alcohol-related car crash.
Joseph M. Barela was driving a blue 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier when it veered off 12th Street about 4 a.m., said Ogden police Lt. Mike Ashment. Investigators believe Barela was speeding.
The eastbound car crossed westbound lanes, jumped the curb and plowed through a grove of trees before it hit a rock wall in front of a house in the 1100 block of 12th Street, Ashment said.
A 20-year-old Ogden man was in the passenger seat and crawled out of the window to ask for help at the house. He ran back to the car, which had burst into flames, and pulled out Barela, who died at the scene.
The passenger was treated at McKay-Dee Hospital Center and released. Neither of the men was wearing a seat belt, Ashment said.
