Provo • During last Saturday's game, an Ole Miss offensive lineman asked his counterpart across the line, BYU defensive lineman Hebron Fangupo, why No. 44 was so angry on every play.

"That's just Tree [linebacker Brandon Ogletree]," Fangupo said. "He wakes up angry."

Then he takes it up a notch when he steps between the white lines. Imagine Ogletree's disgust, then, if he can't pass the protocol for concussions this week and isn't allowed to play Saturday (5 p.m. MDT, ESPN) against the Texas Longhorns.

"Probably kill me," he said, having suffered a mild concussion against the Rebels.

That's because Ogletree — you might be on the angry side, too, if you grew up with seven sisters and no brothers — is from McKinney, Texas, a suburb north of Dallas. He was mildly recruited by the Longhorns and has dreamed of playing in this game since it was announced a year ago last January.

"It is going to be cool. It will be the biggest crowd that BYU has ever played in front of. So that's an exciting thing. They have a great tradition of great football down in Texas," Ogletree said. "The passion and the pageantry and everything else, it is unmatched. It will be really cool. I think the team will have a lot of fun down there."

But will he?

Athletic trainer Kevin Morris said Wednesday that the junior was "progressing well" but that it could go either way.

"It is probably going to be a game-time decision," said Ogletree, who will have about 10 family members in attendance. "I am just following the protocol right now. … As long as I keep feeling good, I am on track to play."

Jacobson is jacked

Another Texan on BYU's roster, receiver McKay Jacobson (Southlake Carroll), has spent the week telling his teammates what to expect when they roll into massive Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

"I feel the quality of opponents we have on our schedule is right up there with a lot of schools." Jacobson said. "Really, you just can't ask for a better opportunity as a player. I think as a fan, you have to love to travel to different places and see how you match up against different teams," he said.

"Just like Ole Miss, Texas is going to have some really athletic players. Their defense flies around very aggressively. We gotta match that intensity. In going down to their stadium, we know they are going to play well."

Briefly

The Cougars are 2-0 against Texas, and 12-14 overall against Big 12 teams. BYU defeated Texas 22-17 in 1987 in Austin and in 1988 in Provo.

The Cougars forced eight turnovers (four fumbles, four interceptions) in the 1987 game.

The Cougars rank 15th in the country in total defense after one game.
