University of Utah sophomores Anna Nguyen, left, Kimberly Nguyen, center, and junior Jenn Nhan, make hats for newborns Saturday at Mountain View Elementary School in Salt Lake City. The activity was part of the University of Utah's eighth annual Legacy of Lowell Community Service Day. Volunteers worked on two dozen projects across the city as the university kicked off its 2011 Homecoming Week. Projects included restoring green space along the Jordan River, filling backpacks for low-income students and sorting donated construction materials for Habitat for Humanity. "It's a great way to volunteer," said Anna Nguyen, a biology student who also helped out last year. "I have a busy schedule, so why not come out for a day?"
