This time, Conroy Black made it to the end zone.

Black, who made a critical interception for the Utes in their win at Arizona a week ago, snagged another crucial one Saturday in the Utes' 31-6 win over the Bruins.

With the Bruins driving, Black stepped in front of a pass thrown by UCLA quarterback Kevin Prince and returned it 67 yards for a touchdown, putting the Utes ahead 28-6 with 9:03 remaining.

It was the second interception of the game for Black, who leads the Utes with four interceptions this year.

Against Arizona, Black intercepted a pass at Utah's 2-yard line and returned it 57 yards before he was brought down.

Black admitted he ran out of gas on that play, but he had no trouble finding the end zone Saturday for his first career touchdown.

"I read the quarterback and I got it,"he said. "I had a lot more energy this time. It was fun."

Utah coach Kyle Whittingham has emphasized the importance of takeaways to his defense. That Black has delivered three interceptions in two games hasn't gone unnoticed by the coach.

"He is starting to come into his own and is playing the position like we need him to," he said. "All three of the corners, Conroy, Mo Lee and Ryan Lacy are all playing well."

One that got away

The Utes thought they'd recovered a UCLA fumble in the second quarter when Tevita Finau jarred the ball loose from UCLA's Johnathan Franklin and Lacy picked up the ball and returned it 26 yards for a would-be touchdown.

However, the referees overturned the call after a video review.

The Utes rank 13th nationally with 11 fumble recoveries this year.

Injury report

The Utes didn't suffer any notable injuries in the game, Whittingham said. Leading receiver DeVonte Christopher twisted his knee during pregame warmups but played, finishing with two catches for 17 yards.
