Dozens of volunteers supported the University of Utah's Bennion Center day of service Saturday, held in conjunction with Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday weekend.

Volunteers assisted at four sites — the YWCA, the Utah AIDS Foundation, the Maliheh Free Clinic and First Step House, a substance abuse treatment facility for men, said Nancy Basinger, the Bennion Center's service learning manager.

At the YWCA, they helped organize in-kind donations received during the holidays; at the AIDS Foundation, among other things, they assembled safe-sex kits and organized the food pantry; at the free clinic they sorted medical supplies; and at First Step House they performed cleaning, Basinger said.
