The BYU women's basketball team's leading scorer, Lexi Eaton, will miss the rest of the season with an ACL injury.

Eaton injured her knee driving to the basket for a layup early in Tuesday's win over Utah State, and BYU coach Jeff Judkins said his star sophomore will likely undergo surgery at the end of the month.

"It's hard to replace a kid like that," Judkins said. "She's a great player and one the best players I've coached."

Eaton, a former Springville High standout, was averaging 17.4 points per game for the 4-4 Cougars.

"The only good thing is that it was the eighth game, so she'll get her year back," Judkins said.

The coach said he will look to fill Eaton's minutes by committee.

"One thing we're deep at is the 2-3 position," he said. "I have some good experience, and this is a good opportunity for someone to step up."

Junior Stephanie Vermunt Seaborn, sophomore Ashley Garfield and freshman Kylie Maeda will all have a chance to earn those minutes, beginning Saturday, when the Cougars travel to Salt Lake City to take on the undefeated Utes.
