I spent quite a bit of time last week listening to NFL Draft teleconferences held by the likes of ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay and Mike Mayock of the NFL Network and trying to get in a few questions about BYU All-America linebacker Kyle Van Noy. Snippets of what the experts had to say about Van Noy and his prospects for the draft, which begins Thursday at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, can be found in this article in Monday's Tribune. Bottom line is that No. 3 seems to have helped himself by returning for his senior season. It is quite likely that Van Noy will be selected in the second round of the draft, which will be held Friday, along with the third round. It wouldn't be a complete shocker if KVN goes in the first round, but it certainly would help his wallet. Getting picked in that round instead of the second or third could mean millions to the Reno, Nev., product. Kiper seems to be especially high on Van Noy, calling him a "very underrated player" several times in teleconferences and on the air. Not only is Van Noy preparing to hear his name called later this week, he's also preparing to marry former Miss Utah Marissa Powell, a one-time volleyball player at Utah Valley University, in June. Yeah, it is good to be Kyle Van Noy right now. Sunday's Tribune featured this column by Kurt Kragthorpe about BYU's place in the college football world as it enters its fourth season of independence in 2014. Of all the reports on the BYU men's rugby team's 43-33 win over Cal in the Varsity Cup at Rio Tinto, I thought the Tribune's Chris Kamrani captured the moment the best. Here's the multi-faceted Kamrani's report from Saturday's national championship match. Did you know that BYU has a new football video coordinator? Last Friday, the Cougars announced that Errol Seaver is not only the new Football Video and Technology Coordinator at BYU, he's also an award-winner. Seaver, who comes to BYU from South Alabama, was picked by the Collegiate Sports Video Association as the Sun Belt Video Coordinator of the Year. He is now a finalist for the Bob Matey National Video Coordinator of the Year award.
