OREM - Jason Chaffetz and Mike Mower are making a habit of filling gaps left by each other.

Chaffetz, the former chief of staff for Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr., will fill a vacancy left by Mower on Utah Valley State College's board of trustees, the school announced Tuesday.

Back in November, Mower filled the spot as Huntsman's deputy chief of staff when Chaffetz resigned and then-Deputy Chief of Staff Neil Ashdown replaced Chaffetz.

“We'll have to see what else we have in store,” Chaffetz joked Tuesday, adding that he and Mower have known each other since college.

Chaffetz's appointment was approved by the state Senate earlier this month.

“I've lived in Utah County for 19 of the last 21 years, so to serve on this board is an honor,” Chaffetz said. “I hope I can contribute.”

Mower left UVSC to spend more time with family and assume additional Capitol responsibilities. Current deputy chief of staff/communications director for Huntsman, he served for nearly three years on UVSC's board.

“Mike Mower has done an exceptional job providing leadership during a time of transition for the college, and we very much appreciate his service,” UVSC President William Sederburg said in a news release. “Jason Chaffetz's experience at the Capitol and with the Utah political system will be very valuable to UVSC and we're looking forward to having him on our board.”
