Utah's gymnastics team is gaining another team member with the announcement that Macey Roberts, a previous freshman at Maryland, is transferring to the Utes.

The Utes have a spot on their 2016-2017 roster after Samantha Partyka announced she was retiring following lingering injuries.

Roberts, from McDonald, Tenn., was a three-time state champion in her state before joining the Terps.

Despite having hip surgery as a high school senior, Roberts recovered quickly enough to be a factor for the Terps in 2016, earning a 9.9 on the floor Jan. 31 against Iowa and a 9.825 on the vault. She had nine scores of 9.8 or higher on the floor.

The Utes rarely have room for transfers, but the departure of Partyka opened up a spot.

"Macey has the potential to make an immediate impact, so we are excited to have her join our team," Utah coach Tom Farden said.
