Posted: 2:43:07 PM- A Farr West man was arraigned Wednesday in 2nd District Court on charges he murdered a woman and set her duplex on fire.

Danny Allen Reyes, 30, was arrested Monday by Ogden police and later charged with murder, aggravated arson, tampering with evidence and tampering with a witness or juror.

The charges stem from the death of Teresa Axbom, whose charred body was found in her Ogden duplex early Sunday, said Weber County Attorney Mark DeCaria.

In Judge Scott Hadley's court, Reyes, who appeared from the county jail via video, was read the charges, appointed a public defender and scheduled to appear in court again on Tuesday.

Ogden firefighters found Axbom's body burned virtually beyond recognition at 464 W. 600 South shortly after a fire was put out about 3 a.m. Sunday.

Police used dental records to identify the body, according to detective Sgt. Kyle Bosgieter, who said partial autopsy results show Axbom died of "sharp-force trauma" to the back of her head and neck before the fire.

Axbom's body was found lying face down on the first floor of her duplex.

Residents in the area suspected the fire was a cover-up for the death. They suspect the home was one of many "tweaker houses," a drug house, in the neighborhood.

After the fire, some neighbors made a cardboard sign and taped it to the garage door. It read, "Crack house out of business. Sorry for the inconvenience."

A search of court records shows Axbom was never charged with a drug crime. Reyes, however, was previously charged with illegal possession or use of a controlled substance, a third-degree felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor.

His preliminary hearing on those charges is scheduled for Aug. 22 in 2nd District Court.

In 1998, Reyes pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and intoxication, both class C misdemeanors, and in 2000, again pleaded guilty to the same charges.
