For the first time, a woman in the Utah National Guard will earn a star.

Col. Christine M. Burckle will be promoted to brigadier general and take command of the Utah Air National Guard in a 9 a.m. ceremony Saturday at Wright Air National Guard Base in Salt Lake City.

Burckle will be the Utah National Guard's first woman general. She will command the 1,400 airmen in the 151st Air Refueling Wing.

Burckle received her commission in 1988 from the University of North Carolina. She spent much of her career as a navigator on air refueling jets. She deployed to the first Gulf War, Bosnia and to Afghanistan.
