A helicopter crew rescued two backcountry skiers from Little Cottonwood Canyon after an avalanche Monday night, police said.

An initial call came in about 5:30 p.m., reporting that one person may have been buried in snow near Alta Ski Area, said Unified police Detective Chuck Malm. After another call reported the same thing, police determined that the two callers had been separated during the avalanche and were calling about each other.

Neither skier was injured, Malm said.

It was not immediately clear whether the skiers were in Alta's boundaries, he said.
