"Kaboom"

Spotlight

**

Sundance regular Gregg Araki returns with his new comedy, "Kaboom," a trippy, hyper-sexualized journey about a teen ("Heroes" co-star Thomas Dekker) dealing with his identity, evil magic, and a mysterious cult. True to Araki's over-the-top sensibilities, "Kaboom" throws everything but the kitchen sink into his comic-book-styled world, all in an effort to deaden the nervous system of conservatives everywhere. That's fine, but all he really attained with this flat comic romp is an eye-rolling mess that loses its steam halfway in.

"Kaboom" screens again at: Saturday, Jan. 22 at 11:59 p.m. at Prospector Square Theatre, Park City; Monday, Jan. 24 at 6 p.m. at the Tower Theatre, Salt Lake City; and Saturday, Jan. 29 at 9:30 p.m., Holiday Village Cinema II, Park City.
