A 3-year-old girl died early Thursday, the day after the car she was riding in careened off the road, through a Harrisville parking lot and crashed into decorative rock wall.

Harrisville Police Chief Max Jackson said the child, Aubrey Jo Anderson, succumbed to her injuries at 2:13 a.m. Thursday at Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City.

The accident occurred about 2:35 p.m. near 1100 North and U.S. Highway 89 when the girl's 26-year-old mother, Brandi Lee Stilke, of Plain City, apparently blacked out and drifted off the road. Jackson said it did not appear the woman attempted to brake. Police estimated the car crashed going 30-40 mph.

The girl was in a child safety seat but still suffered severe head and neck trauma. She was flown by medical helicopter to Salt Lake City in critical condition, while her mother was hospitalized in Ogden with a broken leg.

Jackson said investigators are looking into whether drugs or alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
