Bishop Oscar A. Solis celebrated his first Easter as leader of Utah's more than 300,000 Catholics on Sunday.

The playful and popular Solis, installed last month as the 10th bishop of the Salt Lake City diocese, officiated during a midday Mass at the Cathedral of the Madeleine.

The holiest day on the Christian calendar, Easter marks what Christians believe was the most momentous event in human history — Jesus' resurrection from the dead.

Known as the "good news," it is heralded in ritual, sermon and song — on this occasion by the sumptuous sounds of the Madeleine Choir School.
