The Easter Sunday death of 46-year-old Matthew Holt remains a mystery, South Salt Lake police say.
Investigators have not identified a suspect or motive in the case, department spokesman Gary Keller wrote in a Wednesday update.
But they are hoping to track down several potential witnesses who were seen on camera in the area around the time Holt died.
A business owner found Holt, a South Jordan resident, dead in his car in the area of 3200 South and 900 West on Sunday afternoon. Officials said he had been shot inside his Mazda sedan, and the car door was ajar.
Investigators hope to identify several potential witnesses walking on the Jordan River Parkway Trail around the time of Holt's death, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m, Keller said. Officials say the witnesses may have interacted with or seen Holt before his death.
Police said they are interested in talking with anyone who was on the Jordan River Parkway, near 3110 South, on Sunday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. They are asked to call South Salt Lake Police Dispatch at 801-840-4000.
