Real Salt Lake will play host to a third-round U.S. Open Cup game at Rio Tinto Stadium on June 28, hoping to blaze another path to the CONCACAF Champions League.

RSL will play the winner of a second-round game between the minor-league Charlotte Eagles and Wilmington Hammerheads on Tuesday in Wilmington, N.C.

Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m., and tickets go on sale Friday.

The U.S. Open Cup is an annual single-elimination domestic tournament open to teams from all levels of soccer, and its winner earns a place in the following year's Champions League. RSL is one of six Major League Soccer teams that will enter the tournament in its third round - the round of 16 - by virtue of finishing in the top six in the league last season.

If RSL wins its third-round game, it will advance to the quarterfinals on either July 12 or 13. The semifinals are scheduled for Aug. 30 or 31, with the final on Oct. 4 or 5.

Not since all MLS teams automatically reached the U.S. Open Cup in 2006 has RSL played in the main field of the tournament. The team has failed to play its way in during pre-tournament qualifying in each of the last four years, and lost to rival Colorado 1-0 in 2006.
