Club talks Rumi's poetry

Rumi Poetry Club presents "Rumi: The Empty Flute," a series of talks on Rumi's poetic vision and life philosophy. Participants are welcome to read their favorite poems. The meeting celebrates spiritual poetry for our life and community.

Longmire's new case

The King's English will play host to a reading by Craig Johnson, author of the award-winning Walt Longmire mystery series. He will read from the last book in the series, Hell Is Empty. It follows Sheriff Walt Longmire, who is in Wyoming's Bighorn Mountains to uncover a murder with Indian mysticism and a battered paperback of Dante's Inferno as his only guides. Johnson is the recipient of the Western Writers of America Spur Award for fiction, the Mountains and Plains Booksellers Award for Fiction, and the Novel Observateur Prix du Roman Noir.

Learn to be an outdoor writer

The Outdoor Writers Association of America will kick off its 84th annual conference at Snowbird Ski Resort. "Becoming and Outdoors Communicator" is a free, half-day workshop led by prominent and local writers, including The Salt Lake Tribune's Brett Prettyman, who will discuss writing opportunities in newspapers, and The Tribune's Tom Wharton, who will speak on travel writing. Other experts include Dan Small, Colleen Miniuk-Sperry, Jodi Stemler and Jill Adler.

Tibetan views on death

Golden Braid Books will hold a book signing by Anyen Rinpoche, author of Dying with Confidence, A Tibetan Buddhist Guide to Preparing for Death. Rinpoche is a master teacher of Tibetan Buddhist practices. He gives practical information on the very process of dying to further the goal of enlightenment, compassion and a wise, fulfilling life in the here and now. Rinpoche was born in Amdo, Tibet, with a long Dharma lineage.
