Utah diners can help select the next restaurant to open at The Shops at South Town during "Taste for the Space" on Saturday.

During this free event, 13 Utah chefs will compete for $50,000 and six months of free rent at the Sandy mall — formerly South Towne Center.

The public can sample the signature dish from each contestant and vote for their favorite. The public vote along with community judges will determine the winner.

Finalists include established restaurants, such as Tin Angel Cafe and Yoshi's Japanese Grill, as well as food-truck operators CupBop Korean BBQ, Fat Kid Mac n Cheese, La Salsita Grill, Special Courses and Sushi Be Rollin.

Restaurant newcomers are Arancini Snack, Cafe India, Just Kebabs, Kickin' Q BBQ, Vessel and Watercress.

The winner of "Taste of the Space" will be announced May 16 at the Utah Restaurant Association's annual awards.
