A man who fell about 90 feet down a mine shaft in the Five Mile Pass area in Tooele County was rescued early Sunday, authorities said.

The man was driving a UTV that went in the mine shaft and fell about 10 feet, according to Tooele County sheriff's Lt. Ron Johnson. He said the man then fell out of the vehicle and went down another 80 feet.

When the man did not return home, family members began searching and found him about 5 a.m., Johnson said. Utah County search-and-rescue teams, the Unified Fire Authority and the Tooele County Sheriff's Office responded to the site.

The man, who is in his late 20s, was airlifted to a hospital and has nonlife-threatening injuries, Johnson said.
