Massachusetts-based Steward Health Care LLC is acquiring the parent of five Utah hospitals, including Salt Lake Regional Medical Center.

It will merge with IASIS Healthcare LLC, according to a Steward news release, making the company "the largest private for-profit hospital operator in the United States."

IASIS operates Davis Hospital and Medical Center in Layton, Jordan Valley Medical Center in West Jordan and West Valley City, Mountain Point Medical Center in Lehi and Salt Lake Regional. It also runs 13 hospitals in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana and Texas, according to the release.
