Salt Lake City is expected to be cloudy Wednesday with a high near 42, followed by a 40 percent chance of rain Wednesday night.

The chance of rain will decrease on Thursday to about 20 percent, with an expected high near 47, according to the National Weather Service..

But by midnight Friday, rain could turn to snow, with the snow level lowering to about 4,400 feet.

The air quality in Salt Lake, Davis and Weber counties will improve to "green" on Wednesday, according to the Utah Division of Air Quality.

The weather story is sunnier in the southern part of the state, where a high near 57 degrees is predicted for St. George on Wednesday.

Avalanche danger is moderate all around the state, the Utah Avalanche Center reported.
