I am disturbed by inability of the Utah Transit Authority to provide public transit services on Monday, Jan. 2 — no FrontRunner, TRAX or regular bus service.

During a recent TRAX ride, I spoke with multiple riders who were unaware that service would not be offered on Monday, Jan. 2. Several indicated they would have no way to get to work as a result.

When I queried UTA's official twitter account about the reason for no Jan. 2 service, I was told it is a fiscal issue, there being no money available for service that day.

If the financial situation for UTA is so dire that it can't provide services the day after a holiday, perhaps it is time for a wholesale leadership change and a focus on fiscal responsibility, starting with hiring an executive who is paid less than his counterparts in much larger cities.
