Many Utah waters are lacking in enough safe ice to make a trip, but there are plenty of options for those who like to walk on water during their fishing trips. I did a story last week about the tagged trout that could bring you cash and prizes at Rockport. That event was created by Utah State Parks. There are two other ice fishing events being offered by the state agency.
The First Annual Starvation State Park Ice Fishing Tournament is being held Feb. 11 with a 6:30 a.m. check-in and fishing from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for the three largest trout (rainbows or browns). The event is limited to 200 participants and the registration fee is $15 for adults and $10 for anglers 16 and younger. Call 435-738-2326 to register and for more informtion.Hyrum State Park is also holding an ice fishing tournament. The Hyrum tournament is Feb. 18 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Prizes awarded for the four largest trout, biggest fish caught every hour, and all participants are eligible for random prizes. The tournament is limited to 200 anglers. Registration fee is $60. Call Jake at 435-994-1646 for more information and to register.
