The model train people are coming, and they will try to convert your children.
The World's Greatest Hobby on Tour train show will return to Utah for the first time since 2006, occupying 100,000 square feet of floorspace at the South Towne Exposition Center on Saturday and Sunday and looking for converts. The show is intended to introduce people to the hobby of model railroading — and admission is free for kids ages 15 and under. So are Thomas the Tank Engine train rides.
(Although 15-year-olds are not going to want go on the Thomas the Tank Engine ride.)
Organizers are hoping that after the introduction, kids will want model train set-ups of their own.
The World's Greatest Hobby on Tour will be at the South Town Center on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 5, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Lionel will set up the elaborate displays of model railroading, and the show will feature 200 booths with the latest and greatest model trains.
