Switzerland's Amin Niederer and Katrin Mueller skied the fastest times in qualifying Thursday for the finals in skicross at the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix at The Canyons Resort.

The Swiss and Canadians occupied all but one of the top five positions in the men's and women's qualifying runs, with only American Langley McNeal breaking up their dominance by qualifying fourth among the women. Niederer clocked 1 minute and 5.59 seconds to beat Canada's Christopher Delbosco by 0.29 seconds on the men's side, while Mueller finished in 1:09.98 — 0.62 seconds ahead of Canada's Marielle Thompson.

The top eight of nine women qualified for the finals, along with the top 32 out of 44 men.

Skicross is making its debut at the U.S. Grand Prix this season, after making its Olympic debut at the 2010 Vancouver Games in Canada. Qualifying in snowboardcross takes place Friday afternoon. —
