A bill that broadens the definition of who can be charged for aiding in the solicitation of a prostitute is headed to Gov. Gary Herbert's desk.

HB276 is intended to enable police and prosecutors to go after anyone who "provides any service or commits any act that enables another person" to engage a prostitute.

Sen. Todd Weiler, R-Woods Cross, said the current statute has prevented law enforcement from cracking down on drivers or others who facilitate prostitution.

"The officers know who they are, but aren't able to charge them with any crime," he said.

The bill, sponsored by Rep. Paul Ray, R-Clearfield, passed both the House and Senate unanimously and goes to the governor for action.
