Timpson's son, 19-year-old Jamison Timpson, died in the crash, along with Monica Joy Bistline, 17, of Apple Valley; Carl Otto Nathaniel Holm, 22, of Hildale; Rachel Anne Colgrove, 17, of Cane Beds, Ariz.; and Virgel Taylor Roundy, 15, of Colorado City, Ariz.
"I'm to the point right this minute that I'm just really, really grateful that she let me be her mom," said Stefanie Colgrove, Rachel's mother.
The third oldest of seven children, Rachel was in a hurry from the day she was born, Colgrove said of her daughter. "That's pretty much how she lived life." She joked about how much her daughter loved chocolate and how a large bag she was recently given will last her a whole year without her daughter around.
Colgrove had been told Rachel died instantly but found that wasn't the case when one of her children visited Nakita at the hospital.
Nakita said Rachel was alive for some hours after the accident. The two, she told Rachel's sister, laid next to each other, holding each other and talking. "
Rachel "told Nakita that she needed her mom and dad to know that she loved them and would miss them," Colgrove said. "Beautiful message to get, but to know that your baby is lying out in the most frigid night of the year with nothing to protect her ... that's what I have been processing."
Colgrove said none of the family have been able to make funeral plans as they wait for the coroner's office to contact them.
The victims some of whom were former members of the Warren Jeffs-led Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints were riding in a Chevy Suburban when it failed to make a turn and rolled late Tuesday or early Wednesday some 20 miles south of Colorado City, Ariz. The accident wasn't discovered until late Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Investigators are looking at speed and alcohol as possible factors in the crash and have scheduled autopsies for Monday.
Meanwhile, Principle Voices, an organization the seeks to educate others about polygamous families and their culture, has started a fund at Wells Fargo banks to help the victims' families. Anyone wishing to donate should reference the Principle Voices' Accident Victims Fund.
A fund also has been opened at the Hurricane Valley branch of Mountain America Credit Union under the name of Rachel Colgrove Memorial.
