Logan • A 32-year-old man whose brakes went out before he crashed outside of Providence was planning to propose to his girlfriend that night.

Carrie Sargent says her brother, Adam Goodsell, had gone to Salt Lake City on Friday to buy an engagement ring.

Authorities say Goodsell called 911 just before 4 p.m., telling the dispatcher he was coming out of Sardine Canyon when his brakes went out and his gas pedal got stuck.

The call dropped, and crews arrived to find Goodsell's Land Rover had rolled into a ditch.

Goodsell, who wasn't wearing a seatbelt, was ejected and taken to the hospital with severe head injuries.

The Herald Journal reports that officials found the ring and gave it to Goodsell's fiancée, who is wearing it as family members wait for his recovery.
