Brian Johnson said he was going to use a lot of different looks in his offense and so far, judging from the second day of spring ball, he is living up to that promise. "He is using everyone, I love it," said running back John White, who made several nice runs. "The offense is really explosive, the receivers are making some nice plays through the air. It was a pretty good day." Utah coach Kyle Whittingham agreed with White's assessment, singling out the play of the receivers and the defensive front as standouts. "The whole front four on defense were good and the receivers made some nice catches, it was a good day," he said. "A lot of players are battling hard." Receiver DeVonte Christopher made some nice catches as did junior Anthony Denham who missed the 2011 season after suffering a hamstring injury that put him behind the rest of the team. The 6-foot-4 Denham could provide the Utes with the big body across the middle they need if he can stay healthy. Defensively, linebacker Jared Norris had a nice pass breakup as did defensive back Wykie Freeman. Tight end David Rolf was on crutches with a calf injury so the Utes have moved Westlee Tonga back to tight end, temporarily putting the plans of using him at defensive end on hold. "We're so thin at tight end we have to have him there," Whittingham said. "But we really feel his future is going to be at defensive end." - Lya Wodraska
