A member of the Utah coaching staff may join many Ute players in the ranks of those who were here for just one season.

Director of Basketball Operations Norm Parrish is a candidate for the head coaching position at Southern Utah University, multiple sources told The Tribune.

The Thunderbirds are searching for a replacement for Roger Reid, who retired after five seasons and a 54-97 record at SUU.

The basketball rumor site HoopDirt.com reported Friday that SUU's search has been narrowed to three candidates, not including Parrish. The website lists former Utah assistant Barret Peery, who spent last season as the head coach at Indian Hills Community College, as a candidate.

However, sources have told The Tribune's Steve Luhm that SUU Athletic Director Ken Beazer has not yet eliminated candidates and that Reid's possible successors will visit Cedar City next week for interviews.

Before joining the Utes last season, Parrish spent 20 years as the head coach at Salt Lake Commnity College and in 2009 led the Bruins to an NJCAA national championship. He accumulated a career record at SLCC of 447-198.

The Thunderbirds next season will join the Big Sky conference.
