The U.S. Department of Labor has opened a field office in St. George to provide employees, employers, community organizations and others with the resource and assistance needed to ensure compliance with federal wage and hour laws.

The new office, operated by the Labor Department's wage and hour division, is in the federal building at 196 E. Tabernacle St.

"This new office will be a great resource for the people of southern Utah, as it will serve as a one-stop shop for [those] who need compliance assistance," regional administrator Cynthia Watson said in a statement.

The St. George field office (435-628-8914) has oversight for agency enforcement throughout southern Utah, including on federal construction and service contracts. It is an extension of the Salt Lake City district office.

To reach areas of the country that had been underserved, the division opened 13 offices in 2011 and upgraded several others, making services more accessible to thousands of workers and employers in outlying areas.
