It was just about a year ago that defender Seth Sinovic was trying to earn a job with Real Salt Lake. Now, he's trying to beat it.Having failed to earn a job with RSL as a trialist last season, the 25-year-old defender is now a starter along the back line for Sporting KC, the unbeaten and untied team that plays host to RSL at Livestrong Sporting Park on Saturday night. "We were fond of Seth," coach Jason Kreis said. "Thought he was a very solid player."Just not quite solid enough. While RSL was searching at the time — as seemingly always — for a left back to back up regular starter Chris Wingert, Kreis said the team was "really kind of on the fence" about whether to sign Sinovic, a second-round pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft who played collegiately alongside RSL's Chris Schuler at Creighton."Our decision at that time was to allow him to go somewhere else, to see if the opportunity maybe was a little better," Kreis said. "So we said, why don't you go to Kansas City, and let us know how it goes."Answer?Swimmingly.The former New England Revolution draftee has played all 450 minutes so for Sporting, which has allowed just one goal en route to the first 5-0-0 start in regulation (the league once had penalty shootouts to break ties) since the inaugural season of Major League Soccer in 1996. The team has not allowed even a single shot on goal in 245 minutes, a league record."Their need for that position was probably higher than ours," Kreis said. "Seth's a very good player, but he wouldn't be starting for us."
