Many Utah record stores will be celebrating Record Store Day on Saturday, April 21.

Record Store Day was conceived in 2007 as a celebration of the unique culture at more than 700 independently owned record stores in the United States and hundreds of similar stores internationally.

Special vinyl and CD releases and promotional products are made exclusively for the day and artists have been known to make special appearances. Concerts by local acts are another feature of the day at some shops.

Record Store Day is now celebrated the third Saturday every April.

"There's nothing as glamorous to me as a record store," said Paul McCartney in a statement released by national officials behind Record Store Day. "When I recently played Amoeba in L.A., I realized what fantastic memories such a collection of music brings back when you see it all in one place. This is why I'm more than happy to support Record Store Day and I hope that these kinds of stores will be there for us all for many years to come."
