Update: Thanks to Kyle Kafentzis in the comments for the updates. Looks like after six years, the state record was broken twice on Thursday. In addition to Porcaro's 198-10, Austin Kafentzis threw 197-2 to also eclipse Jorgensen's mark. Should be fun to see where the record stands at the end of the season.
The state javelin record fell Thursday, but it wasn't broken by whom you might expect.
Maple Mountain senior Skyler Porcaro threw the javelin 198 feet, 10 inches Thursday at the meet at Mountain View High School. He broken the record of 195-5, set in 2006 by North Sanpete's Austen Jorgensen.
Two other athletes have threated to break the record this year, Jordan's Austin Kafentzis was two inches off the record at last week's BYU Invitational, throwing 195-3. Delta's Ryan Peterson has also thrown in the 190s.
Porcaro finished third at BYU, behind those two, with a 178-1.
