The Jazz held their second pre-draft workout Friday morning, with point guards once again taking the spotlight.

Three of the six players participating in the workout were pure point guards, including Iona's Scott Machado.

If his name sounds familiar, it should.

Machado quarterbacked Iona into the NCAA Tournament in March. In the first round, the Gaels lost to BYU, 78-72. They led 49-24 late in the first half before BYU staged the biggest comeback in tournament history.

Machado scored 15 points on 6-for-9 shooting against the Cougars. He also handed out 10 assists.

"He's a tough kid, man," Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin said. "He can attack, but he's a pass-first guy [who] understands his personnel. Just in the short amount of time here today, he had a feel of who to get the ball to and where they wanted it."

The Jazz own the 47th pick in Thursday night's draft.

Utah was the 17th team to work out Machado, who averaged 13.6 points and 9.9 assists as a senior at Iona.

The Player of the Year in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, he has been projected as a possible second-round pick.

"The draft is pretty much wide open for me," Machado said. "I have a big range, I think. Coming from a mid-major, I [accomplished] a lot. But it's still a mid-major, so people take it differently."

Machado refuses to guess where he might end up playing next season.

"At this point," he said, "I'm just going through the process and working hard everywhere I go. Hopefully, I'll land in the best spot."

Machado, who started 125 of his 132 games at Iona, blames part of his uncertain draft status on the tournament loss to BYU.

"I feel, if we would have won, the process would have been a little bit different for me," he said. "If we had made it a little deeper into the tournament, it would have made it a little easier. My range wouldn't have been so wide. I probably would be working out for fewer teams. But stuff happens."

The other five players who participated in the workout were Mississippi State point guard Dee Bost, Marquette combo guard Darius Johnson-Odom, Syracuse point guard Scoop Jardine, Alabama forward JaMychal Green and Northwestern forward John Shurma.

Jardine missed most of the workout after suffering an injury.

"I thought all the guys were in great shape and did a great job of showing what they can do," Corbin said. "They gave us a good look and a good feel of who they are on the floor."

The Jazz will work out 12 more players on Saturday morning.

The list includes Bowie State center-forward Travis Hyman, French guard Travis Lacombe, Alabama-Huntsville guard Josh Maggette, Yale center Greg Mangano, Maryland guard Terrell Stoglin and Memphis guard-forward Wesley Witherspoon.

Also included will be LSU center Justin Hamilton, Oakland guard Reggie Hamilton, center Negueba Samake from the Republic of Mali, center Greg Somogyi of UC-Santa Barbara, Long Beach State guard Casper Ware and forward Tomislav Zubcic from Croatia.
