Mitt Romney was in Park City on Saturday to address top campaign fund-raisers at an event in upper Deer Valley, a gathering that brought a crowd of Republicans to Silver Lake Village to listen to the party's presumptive White House nominee as well as a roster of other GOP stars.
The Summit County Sheriff's Office indicated Romney arrived without trouble at approximately 2 p.m. Friday The Secret Service earlier requested the roadwork along S.R. 224 be halted to allow Romney's motorcade free passage to Deer Valley.
The crowd in Deer Valley for the event appeared to be centered at Stein Eriksen Lodge and The Chateaux at Silver Lake. Roads in Silver Lake were open to traffic, but some of the parking lots were heavily restricted with barricades and yellow caution tape.
A bomb squad truck was parked outside and a small tent was put up nearby. A Park City police officer was parked close to the hotels and members of the Park City Fire District were watching from the Silver Lake station across the street.
Security staffers from the hotels kept reporters from the properties. A few reporters who travel with the Romney campaign watched the scene from a sidewalk.
Golf carts were shuttling people between the two hotels. The men were dressed in sports coats and slacks while the women wore dresses.
Romney is huddling with the fund-raisers and high-profile Republicans for the weekend.
Sheriff Dave Edmunds said there had not been problems by 4 p.m.
"Everything's going along just fine. We have to keep it that way," he said.
