Utah's football team opened camp with a good effort Thursday with quarterbacks Jordan Wynn and Travis Wilson, receiver Kenneth Scott and running back Kelvin York all making some nice plays during the 20 minutes media members were allowed to watch practice. Freshman quarterback Chase Hansen didn't participate due to a sore throwing shoulder, which could keep him out of practice for several days, Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said. Also missing from practice was sophomore Nate Fakahafua, the projected starter at left end, who is taking care of some family issues, according to Whittingham. He is expected to join the team Monday. Defensive back Reggie Topps, who was suspended indefinitely last April for violating team rules, has been cleared to participate in practices, but hasn't been cleared by Whittingham to participate in games, at least not yet. Speaking of suspensions, safety Brian Blechen, who is suspended for the first three games for a violation of team rules, spoke to members of the media following Thursday's practice. You can see a video of him here. I'll have more on the practice later today.
