Civics central: Truth in Taxation in Orem; new city park in Ogden

Here's your weekly roundup of what local city councils, school boards and other government entities are tackling during regularly scheduled meetings. All meetings are open to the public, and citizens are welcome to voice their opinions during designated times. If you do wish to speak at a particular meeting, you may need to sign up in advance.

Bountiful City Council » Will consider approving the purchase of two police vehicles: Tuesday, 7 p.m., Aug. 14, 790 S. 100 East, Bountiful. View the Bountiful agenda.

Davis County Commission • Will discuss the donation of surplus emergency vehicle electronics equipment to Farmington; Tuesday, Aug. 14, 10 a.m., 28 E. State St., Farmington. View the Davis County agenda.

Eagle Mountain Planning Commission • Public hearing on designating the 287 acres involved in the Clearview Estates Master Development Plan proposal as Rural Residential, contingent upon the annexation of 244 acres being approved by the City Council at a future meeting; Tuesday, Aug. 14, 6 p.m., Eagle Mountain City Council Chambers, 1650 E. Herriman Planning Commission • Public hearing on a subdivision approval for 15 residential lots on five acres at 13395 S. 7300 West, Herriman; Thursday, Aug. 16, 5 p.m., Herriman Community Center, 13011 South Pioneer Street (6000 West), Herriman.

Kearns Improvement District Board of Trustees • Will hear a presentation on the GIS system and discuss additional sampling stations; Tuesday, Aug. 14, 5:30 p.m., 5350 W. 5400 South, Kearns. View the Kearns agenda.

Lehi City Council • Public hearing on an amendment to the Lehi City Development Code, Chapter 12, for the buffer width requirement for buildings over 20 feet in height; Tuesday, Aug. 14, 7 p.m., Lehi City Council Chambers, 153 North 100 East, Lehi. View the Lehi agenda.

Magna Township Planning Commission • Will consider an ordinance that allows for increased flexibility on where a Planned Unit Development may apply and an ordinance setting limitations on the use of electronic message centers on signs in commercial and industrial zones; Thursday, Aug. 16, 6:30 p.m., Magna Library, 2675 S. 8950 West. Midvale City Council • Will discuss rezone of two properties at 8645 and 8665 S. Harrison St. from single family and commercial to light industrial, general plan amendment involved; Tuesday, Aug. 14, 7 p.m., City Hall, 655 W. Center St. View the Midvale agenda.

Murray Planning Commission • Will consider several conditional use permits, including one for an established nutrition business wanting to sell juice drinks packaged with alcohol; Thursday, Aug. 16, 6:30 p.m., City Hall, 5025 S. State St. View the Murray agenda.

Ogden City Council/Weber State University Work Session » Will discuss items of shared interest; Thursday, Aug. 16, 5:30 p.m., Lampros Board Room, 3rd Floor of Miller Administration Bldg., WSU Campus, 3848 Harrison Blvd., Ogden. View the Ogden agendas.

Ogden City Redevelopment Agency » Will consider finalizing purchase of land near 18th Street and Wall Avenue for development of a new city park to augment the River Project; Tuesday, Aug. 14, 6 p.m., 3rd floor Council Chambers, 2549 Washington Blvd., Ogden. View the Ogden agendas.

Orem City Council • Will hold a Truth in Taxation hearing on a proposed property tax increase of $3.5 million; Tuesday, Aug. 14, 6 p.m., City Council Chambers, 56 N. State St., Orem. View the Orem agenda.

Orem Planning Commission • Will hold a public hearing on senior housing; Wednesday, Aug. 15, 4:30 p.m., City Council Chambers, 56 N. State St., Orem. View the Orem planning agenda.

Salt Lake City Council • Will discuss how to put opinion questions before voters. Such initiatives are presently considered outside Utah law; Tuesday, Aug. 14, 5 p.m., City Hall, Room 326, 451 S. State St. The council also will interview Pete Giacoma for a seat on the Library Board.

Salt Lake County Council • Is expected to take action on Salt Lake City's proposal to team up on the development and operation of a large downtown theater, dubbed the Utah Performing Arts Center; Tuesday, Aug. 14, 1 p.m., County Government Center, North Building, Room 2003, 2001 S. State St. The council is scheduled to ratify its action at its 4 p.m. meeting in the first floor council chambers. Revisions of the county's business license ordinance also will be discussed at both meetings.

Sandy City Council • Will consider amending an ordinance on landscaping standards to prohibit recreational equipment, such as basketball standards, within the parkstrip; Tuesday, Aug. 14, 7 p.m., 10000 Centennial Parkway, Sandy. View the Sandy agenda.

South Jordan Planning Commission • Will hold public hearings and possibly take action on several items, including a target-shooting business called the Gun Vault at 1231 W. South Jordan Parkway, also will consider the appeal of a business license denial for home-occupation firearm sales ; Tuesday, Aug. 14, 6:30 p.m., City Hall, 1600 W. Towne Center Drive. South Weber City Council • Will consider a development agreement for the Easton Village subdivision; Tuesday, Aug. 14, 6 p.m., 1600 E. South Weber Drive, South Weber. View the South Weber agenda.

Syracuse City Council » Will consider adopting the Syracuse State Road 193 Economic Development Project Area Plan; Tuesday, Aug. 14, 7 p.m., 1979 W. 1900 South, Syracuse. View the Syracuse agenda.

Taylorsville City Council, special meeting • Will hold a truth-in-taxation hearing on a proposed property tax increase, which would raise the tax on a $172,000 residence by $26.39 a year and on a $172,000 business by $47.98 a year; Tuesday, Aug. 14, 6 p.m., 2600 W.
